Kick The Coffee Habit with Natural Herbs

I will start off by admitting that I love coffee.   However, too much coffee, especially over the years is not good for anyone.  During the past several years I have tried to cut back or completely stop.   Stopping completely is hard to do for most people.  Sometimes I succeeded in stopping, many times I did not.  It seems every New Years I would make the resolution to stop or cut back on coffee.   What has worked best for me was cutting down my cups of coffee to one a day (sometimes none) and substituting a good herbal energy tea or energy supplement.

There are several herbal teas and herbal energy supplements I would recommend to people who want to kick the coffee habit.   Here are six that are good options when trying to reduce or quit coffee completely.

Yerba Mate.  This is number one on my list.  Yerba Mate will help you wake up and get out of bed, just like your cup of coffee.  Yerba mate is found mainly in Argentina.  Its leaves and stems produce a fairly smooth green tea.  It is also finding its way into diet and natural energy supplements.  It is slightly less potent than coffee and much gentler on the stomach.   Most feel it has a smooth flavor and is not too bitter.  Yerba mate is a natural source of energy and like green tea, Yerba Mate is rich in polyphenols.  Yerba mate contains minerals such as potassium, magnesium and manganese.  According to Wikepedia and Florida International University, Yerba Mate does contain caffeine.  Florida International University has studied Mate and found that it does contain caffeine.  However, they agreed that many people seem to be able to tolerate Yerba mate better than coffee.  Yerba Mate users often claim they can get to sleep easily after drinking mate.  They also report feeling more focused and alert while drinking it.  I Have used Yerba Mate almost daily for the past ten years and would agree.  The discomforts of too much coffee such as the jitters, constipation, and upset stomach do not come with a Yerba Mate habit.   It is a great coffee substitute for me.

Green tea.  Green tea has become very popular over the last few years as a rich source of antioxidants.  (I believe there are many species of plants yet to be discovered as food sources that yield the same great amount of antioxidants.)   Green tea is loaded with vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. The caffeine content in green tea is much less than in coffee and again does not seem to give most people the jitters.  Many believe it is a much healthier substitute for coffee.   It has also been studied numerous times and is said to have several other health benefits including healthy weight loss, helping to keep cancer away,  and also gives you an energetic boost.  You will find green tea extract (a more potent form of the tea leaf) in many weight loss and energy supplements.  Drinking green tea instead of coffee requires a little time to get used to. If you have been a heavy coffee drinker do not give up coffee 100%.  I have grown to appreciate a good cup of both coffee and green tea.  Most would agree that drinking green tea is much healthier than drinking heavy amounts of coffee.

Guarana.   Guarana is an herb found in South America, mainly in Brazil.   It has a very unique taste and contains guaranine, which is chemically identical to caffeine.  I often prefer Guarana because it releases its energy much more slowly than caffeine.  Again, less jitters than coffee and you still get the benefits of increased energy and improved mental alertness.  Guarana is found in many sodas and herbal teas in South America, mainly Brazil.   It enhances the cola flavor in sodas and also provides a stimulant effect to the soda.   Guarana is gaining popularity in America and is mainly found in supplement form.  I think Guarana is  good safe substitute for coffee in the short term, but it still is a strong stimulant and can upset some people’s stomachs.

Ginseng.  Ginseng is often used by athletes, runners, cyclists and weight lifters with the intention of improving stamina and overall energy.  I promote Ginseng more of a tonic to support overall energy more so than being an energy booster.  Used over a long term it is said to be beneficial to the immune system, regulating blood sugar, improving mental awareness, increasing a sense of well-being, improving sexual function and improving both mental and physical performance.   Ginseng has been used for many years and many studies are still going on.  I believe it is a good safe tonic to add to you supplement list.  I do not believe you can substitute ginseng for coffee if you are a daily coffee drinker.

Maca Root.  Maca root come from a plant found in Peru with a radish like root stem.  Maca Root, another South American herb is considered a superfood by many.  In fact, maca root is used in many different drinks and food recipes in native Peru.   Superfood means that Maca is a nutrient dense food item.  Rich in potassium and calcium, maca also is a natural hormone balancer for both men and women.   Maca root extract is used to increase strength, energy, stamina and overall energy levels.  Maca is just becoming popular in supplement form in health food stores and is seen as an ingredient in several new healthy weight loss and natural energy supplements.  Several studies have proven that Maca root is a hormonal balancing Adaptogen.  Much like ginseng, it also has been shown to support and help restore the adrenal glands, which produce adrenaline (our energy factory.)  Although Maca root is gaining popularity, it is better known as a libido enhancer than a substitute for that morning coffee.  You will begin to see Maca showing up in energy supplements and natural mood enhancers.

Cha de Bugre.  Cha de Bugre is the newest energy herb from the Amazon to make it way to health food and supplement stores in the U.S.  Cha de Bugre is a small tree found in Brazil that produces a small red fruit similar to a coffee bean.  Cha de Bugre is known to contain caffeine, potassium and allantoin, an anti-oxidant.  In Brazil, Cha de Bugre has been used for years for weight loss, increased energy, cellulite reduction and a natural appetite suppressant.  Cha de Bugre is quickly becoming the “New Ephedra” by body builders and athletes.  Cha de Bugre can be found in the form of tea as well as in supplement form and like Yerba Mate, makes a great alternate for that morning coffee.  It is very popular in gyms where body builders use it to burn fat and increase energy.

Is Cha de Bugre the Next Ephedra?

The rain forest has produced another weight loss miracle.  Cha de Bugre, a small tree found in Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay is commonly used as an appetite suppressant, diuretic and stimulant. The Cha de Bugre tree produces a red fruit very similar to a coffee bean which is roasted and brewed into tea and used as a coffee substitute.

Cha de Bugre is common along Rio’s beaches as a popular weight loss herb.  Cha de Bugre is seen in pharmacies, stores and eateries in the popular beach areas of Rio.  Among its many claims is that Cha de Bugre acts as an appetite suppressant, diuretic, stimulant, cellulite reducer, a heart tonic, and a strong antiviral.  Although few long term studies have actually been done on Cha de Bugre the Japanese have been using it for the past ten years as an antiviral tonic for Herpes.

Although it is new to America, many are already calling Cha de Bugre the “New Ephedra.”   Cha de Bugre works well in suppressing the appetite, but not like normal appetite suppressors.  Cha de Bugre gives one a sense of being full after eating only a few bites of food. This seems to promote much smaller meals, more often, which is what many practitioners believe is better for sustained weight loss and keeping the metabolism going throughout the day.

Cha de Bugre includes the following ingredients within its formulation: Cha de Bugre Tree Extract, Caffeine, Potassium, Allantoin and Allantoic Acid.  Allantoin is byproduct of uric acid. Both are known antioxidants, which help fight off free-radicals, the scavengers that damage skin and speed the aging process.  This may be why the Japanese have found Cha de Bugre useful in fighting the Herpes virus.  The presence of these ingredients explains the power of Cha' de Bugre to also fight obesity and prevent cellulite. Allantoic acid is reported to reduce body fat and to stimulate the growth of healthy tissue. Potassium assists in muscle contraction, maintaining fluid and electrolyte balance in body cells and sending nerve impulses as well as releasing energy from protein, fat, and carbohydrates during metabolism or energy production.

Is Cha de Bugre the new ephedra?   It may be too early to tell.  Long term studies have not been done on Cha de Bugre even though it has been used for centuries as a healing and stimulating tea in the Rainforest.  Cha de Bugre is just starting to become popular with body-building enthusiasts.   Will it hit mainstream America?  I think it will.    Americans are always ready for that miracle pill or drug that helps them lose ten quick pounds and clear their complexion.  Maybe Cha de Bugre is the answer for them.

Energy Drinks Vs. Natural Energy Supplements

Do you want a natural energy solution to building better energy reserves?   Do you drink more and more coffee and energy drinks each day and still feel drained?   Americans consumed $3.5 Billion dollars in energy drinks in 2005 and it does not look like we are slowing down.

We used to get our energy with the food we consumed and an occasional cup of coffee or tea.  Along with that, just forty to fifty years ago our soils were not depleted.   Our farmland’s topsoil contained all the trace minerals needed by our cells to keep our body functioning properly.  Now, with technology, companies are producing “instant energy gratification” in the form of quick acting energy drinks and high powered espresso drinks.

There seems to be a Starbucks on every corner and multitudes of energy drink options in every convenience store.   Many Americans are getting through  their day by guzzling several energy drinks or iced lattes.
Want to be able to increase your activity?   Or, have enough energy after a day of work to go work out?    Do you want improved energy, have more focus and boost your immune system?

Here are several natural ingredients that will rebuild your energy levels allowing you to cut back on those energy drinks and coffee.

Cayenne
Cayenne is a pepper well known for its benefits to the circulatory system. Cayenne also boosts metabolism. It aids the body to balance pressure levels and resist abnormal bleeding. Cayenne also nourishes the digestive system. This plant assists in the body's utilization of other herbs, when used in an herbal combination.

Alfalfa
Alfalfa is a well-known herb to health-conscious consumers. It is high in nutrients, which are drawn into the plant from deep in the soil. The richest land source of trace minerals, the roots of Alfalfa plants have been known to reach as much as thirty feet deep! The leaves of the alfalfa plant are rich in minerals and nutrients, including calcium, magnesium, potassium, and carotene. They are also a source of protein, vitamin E and vitamin K.  Alfalfa nourishes the digestive, skeletal, glandular, and urinary systems. Alfalfa contains chlorophyll, which is renowned for its cleansing qualities.

Bee Pollen
Bee pollen is a rich source of many nutrients, including amino acids. Bee Pollen contains easily assimilated protein and lecithin, which nourish the brain and nervous system. Bee Pollen nutritionally supports the body in many ways, including assisting with vitality and a feeling of well-being. It has been used by athletes to maintain energy and stamina.

Kelp/Spirulina
Kelp contains nearly thirty minerals which nourish the glands (especially the thyroid and pituitary). By enhancing the action of the glandular system, it helps balance the body's metabolism and rate at which it burns calories. Kelp, also known as seaweed, grows in the rich ocean beds, far below surface pollution levels. Because of its high nutrient content, this herb is reputedly beneficial for a wide range of applications. It is known to nourish the sensory nerves, brain membranes, also spinal cord and brain tissue. Kelp contains alginic acid which can help protect the body against the effects of radiation. These energizing "super foods" are some of the most nutrient-rich substances produced by nature.

Ginseng, Schisandra and Licorice
Siberian Ginseng can be used in cases of stress, depression and low libido. Siberian Ginseng and Schisandra and Licorice, are herbs known as adaptogens. Adaptogens help us to cope with the changes in our environment both emotionally and physically; they support and ultimately promote overall health and by promoting our physical and mental strength; they help our body adjust to variances in diet and environmental factors.  Licorice supports the adrenal glands and plays a crucial role in countless metabolic steps to convert fats, protein and carbohydrates into energy.  It is included in every adrenal boosting product on the market and many times taken by itself to boost the adrenals.

Guarana
From seeds of an Amazon vine plant.  Guarana is a tonic very similar to caffeine and boosts the adrenal glands and stimulates cerebral functions. It provides energy and  alertness.   It has a very similar chemical structure to that of caffeine, but releases its energy more slowly into our system making it a little better for your system than regular caffeine.

Maca
The South American country of Peru hosts a great variety of beneficial plants, including MACA, a legendary sex-enhancing root passed down from the Inca.  It has been dubbed "Peruvian ginseng," even though it bears no relation to ginseng.  But like ginseng, the plant is employed to increase strength, energy, stamina, libido and sexual function, a winning combination of health benefits if there ever was one.

Yohimbe
The benefits of yohimbe are a subject of much controversy. Yohimbe is used to help build muscle, improve sexual function, reduce anxiety, elevate mood, and prevent heart attacks. Because it stimulates the central nervous system, it has been used to treat narcolepsy and for weight loss.  It is a great metabolism booster.   Yohimbe increases fatty acid mobilization, decreasing fat synthesis, which means it not only aids in weight loss, but actual fat reduction. Yohimbe is popular with bodybuilders. By stimulating the production of testosterone, it can help build muscle mass.  Be careful with Yohimbe, as this herb will naturally get your heart racing fast.

The best advice I can give to coffee drinkers is to make the switch gradual.   Start To incorporate healthy products and herbs slowly into your routine.   Just like Coffee, they become habits!  Good Habits.

I have gotten great feedback on  ACT energy drink.   The first healthy energy drink in a packet.  People I have worked with say it allows them to quickly replace their coffee with something healthy.

Diet Info and Colon Cleanses.

Realizing that every body functions in a different manner,  Yours included! Here are several tips that may or may not work to help you get to that perfect weight and more energy!  Maybe, one of these suggestions is just the thing to get your diet & energy to that next level you have been waiting for.

  • Don't eat after dark or too late in the evening.  The body works on a cycle and in the evening the body is designed to slow down, get rest and re-charge for the next day.   If you eat a big meal late in the day it takes hours, sometimes up to eight hours or more to digest a meal.  People do not realize that digestion takes center stage when it comes to energy allotment with the body.  And so, when you eat late you sometimes wake up feeling sluggish because your body did not repair itself from the day before.  It was busy trying to digest that big meal.    Just so you know;  the body really takes a lot of energy to breakdown alcohol, beer and wine...
  • Eat foods that are lower on the glycemic index.   This means that some foods that are high on that "sugar" index break down really fast, releasing their energies, or calories really quick.  This means you get a sudden burst of energy and then you get really sluggish...and so does your brain.   You will feel hungry soon after words so the body can manufacture more energy.   Your blood sugar stays more constant , your energy level is more stable and predictable and you have more focus.   And usually, the foods that are lower on the glycemic index have more fiber and nutrients, which help the body function more efficiently.
  • Eat More salad!   Make sure you get nutrient rich vegetables on that salad.  When you do not eat healthy your brain signals you to eat more so it can get the nutrients and micro nutrients it needs to operate at peak levels.   This is one of the first thing you can do to improve your energy levels.   Sometimes, deficiency in one nutrient can  make you feel like you feel like you are in the energy dog-house.
  • Add an enzyme supplement to your diet.   As you reach 40 and older the body makes less and less enzymes.  It is harder and harder to break down the food you are eating into energy.   Enzymes help break down protein, fat and carbohydrates and they also help unlock the nutrient store in your food.   So, if you want to go back to work after your lunch break with energy, try taking some enzymes at lunch to help digest your meal.   Bromelain on an empty stomach acts as an anti-inflammatory and I always load up on it before going to the dentist!!!  Better than aspirin.  Great for joint problems!!!
  • Replace one of your bad habits with a good habit.   Suggestions:  An apple or fruit for that chocholate,  a salad for those fries, cereal as a bedtime snack versus chips.   Don't get rid of all your bad habits at once...that will certainly backfire on you!
Why Superfoods are Important for Energy Production
Over the last 50-75 years our soils have slowly become depleted.   We can no longer rely on our normal diet to supply the RDA of the vitamins and minerals our bodies need.   Nutrients such as vitamins, proteins, enzymes and amino acids, are required for our bodies to function properly. These nutrients are dependent upon minerals. Minerals are predominantly obtained from the food we eat, and the mineral content of that food is dependent upon the mineral content of the soil it grows in.  Add to that the increase in pollutants and toxins entering our food from our environment and you have a severe shortage of optimal health and well being.

We have been able to track and study the mineral levels in our soil and in our foods for about one hundred years.   As early as 1936 (Senate Document 264) we recognized that our soils were becoming depleted.   According to Senate Document 264 (1936) it states:
"The alarming fact is that foods (fruits, vegetables and grains) now being raised on millions of acres of land that no longer contain enough of certain minerals are starving us - no matter how much of them we eat. No man of today can eat enough fruits and vegetables to supply his system with the minerals he requires for perfect health because his stomach isn't big enough to hold them."

The 1992 Earth Summit soil mineral depletion report showed soil depletion in North America to be at 85 percent, the highest in the world.    Nutrition in this country is just like global climate change.   Economics play a larger role in decision making than planning for our children’s futures.

There are two reasons are soils have become so depleted and the nutritional value of our foods have fallen.   One, is that today’s agriculture does not allow to regenerate the soil.   We rely on chemical fertilizers to only replace three or four minerals.  Phosphorous, Potassium and Nitrogen are the main ingredients in our fertilizers.   The second reason our foods are less nutritious than fifty years ago is that fruits and vegetables are picked while they are still green and have not have the chance to extract all of the nutrients from the soil.   They are harvested green so that they ripen on the way to market (your grocery store.)  Many times fruits and vegetables have to travel thousands of miles from farm to factory and finally to the store.  They are harvested while still green to enable them to last longer in storage, but it also leaves insufficient time for the plant to fully absorb whatever minerals are available in the soil, and to synthesize vitamins and other nutrients. The ripening process continues, cut off from the soil and sun, in box and storage depot, often for weeks, resulting in further losses of vitamins and other essential nutrients.

All of this results in mineral deficient bodies, from which comes an abundance of health problems and degenerative diseases. A few of the major symptoms and illness linked to mineral deficiencies are osteoporosis, bone and muscle weakness, lack of focus and energy, glucose intolerance, poor wound healing, poor hair, skin and nails, and liver problems. A lack of minerals can also lead to weight gain, as a deficiency leaves your body craving minerals and never feeling satiated.

That is why you see one popular Superfood in may diet products on the shelves today, Spirulina.   Spirulina combats excessive hunger by providing the body with protein, vitamins, and minerals.  Spirulina, because it is very dense in nutrients, it is a wonderful energy booster and is known to help curb cravings and lower cholesterol.

Other Superfoods like chlorella help absorb heavy metals like mercury out of your system.  It acts as a natural detoxifier.   Look for Superfoods such as berries high in anti-oxidant ratings like Acai, Mangosteen and Gogi.   Wheat grass, barley and other seaweed vegetables are great choices when adding Superfoods to your diet.

Superfoods are an excellent way to make up for dietary deficiencies. Even if you are eating a 100% organic diet you will still not be able to get all the nutrients you need because of depleted soils.

Diet Vs. Cleanse.  More Energy?

Cleansing has always had a place among humans, throughout all ages and cultures. For thousands of years, body purification has been a part of our rituals for health and well-being. It was also used in ancient times as a way to reconnect with the divine.

Diets have just been in vogue during the last 150 years or so. You can look at the word diet in different ways. It has that painful reference to cutting way back on all the foods you love. It also can refer to a set of foods you allow yourself to consume without limit.

View your Diet & Cleanse as new habits that mean more energy!!!!

Recently diet products and supplements have turned into diet "systems". Diet products used to just burn fat or boost your metabolism so you burned more calories. They were fat burners. Now diet systems involve a cleanse portion as well, a metabolism booster and sometimes a natural appetite suppressant like Hoodia.

So, what is the best way to healthy weight loss? Let's talk about what a colon cleanse can do for healthy weight loss. Detox or cleansing is a way to clean out all the toxins, environmental pollutants, and wastes from all the drugs, toxins and chemicals ingested into our bodies. Think about all environmental poisoning from just the pesticides, insecticides and other contaminants that are on most of our foods. Think about all the chemicals in our air and water, food additives in processed food, antibiotics and more that we absorb into our cells. These environmental toxins and stresses assault our liver, blood and colon on a daily basis. Our liver removes many of these toxins, but in today's world our liver is overloaded it just keeps dumping toxins into our colon and blood systems because it can't take the toxic load we are giving it. Repeated exposure to these toxins, pesticides, and antibiotics can take its toll on the body resulting in suppressed immune systems, unexplained aches, depression, weight gain, loss of memory, and low levels of energy.

The liver regulates energy flow and stores in our body!

"The colon is a sewage system, but by neglect and abuse it becomes a cesspool. When it is clean and normal, we are well and happy; let it stagnate, and it will distill the poisons of decay, fermentation and putrefaction into the blood, poisoning the brain and nervous system so that we become mentally depressed and irritable; it will poison the heart so that we are weak and listless; poisons the lungs so that the breath is foul; poisons the digestive organs so that we are distressed and bloated; and poisons the blood so that the skin is sallow and unhealthy. In short, every organ of the body is poisoned, and we age prematurely, look and feel old, the joints are stiff and painful, neuritis, dull eyes and a sluggish brain overtake us; the pleasure of living is gone.” -Dr. Bernard Jensen

If you want more energy, healthy weight loss starts with a colon cleanse. If the colon is cleansed on a regular basis it is better able to absorb nutrients into our cells. If our colon is full of compacted old waste it absorbs very little of the actual nutrients we eat. That is why the body keeps telling you that you are hungry and calls for more food. It is a vicious cycle. Healthy weight loss, weight loss that lasts, comes from fine tuning your system, starting with a colon cleanse. A good colon cleanse will eliminate most sugar and salt cravings making that healthy weight loss even easier! To keep your body running in top shape with high energy levels you should consider a colon, liver, blood and kidney cleanse once every three months or once every season. You can also buy some "health assurance" by adding a green superfood to your diet daily. That is what I call a diet!

When you talk to people who have done a cleanse or completed a successful diet they always say they feel lighter & have More Energy!

7 Reasons to cleanse...Build Immune, Add Energy...

In recent years colon cleansing has become one of the most popular natural
health topics.   Colon cleansing has become almost popular.   Colon
cleansing elements are now standard issue in most diet "systems."
Infomercials have made cleansing and detox household terms.   Hollywood
stars have known this for a long time.  Losing weight and keeping energy
levels high require a quick trip to the health spa.  The first thing you do is a
cleansing diet and colon cleanse.

I knew about colon cleansing ten years before I actually did my first one.
Even though I knew  I needed a colon cleanse I waited and waited.  Like so
many people I was afraid to do a colon cleanse.  Who needs more diarrhea
anyway, is what I thought!   If you are thinking about doing your first colon
cleanse please don't wait.  Here are seven good reasons to do one now.

1.  When you do a colon cleanse you will most likely lose 2-5 pounds within a
two week period.  Most of that weight will be impacted feces containing toxins
that were recirculating in your blood and liver.  Most people who do their first
colon cleanse say they just feel lighter.  Other people say they feel years
younger and have a TON of Energy!

2.  Because you eliminate toxins from your system you have more energy.
You do not feel lethargic.  Your body is not constantly recirculating the toxins
in the blood and liver.  Much of your body's energy is devoted to cleansing
impurities via the blood and liver.  Your liver makes glucose.  No glucose, no
energy.  Your liver dumps into the colon.   If the colon is not cleansed the
liver and blood can't do their jobs.  Also, when the digestive tract is cleansed
it is easier for nutrients to be absorbed.  The body calls for less calories.
Digestion of those calories takes a lot of your energy stores, especially after
forty.

3.  More clarity and focus.  Many people report feeling physically lighter
and mentally sharper.  I can say for sure that my long term memory improved
significantly.  Clarity means power.  Indecisiveness means inaction and being
lethargic.

4.  Improve your immune system.  More than 50 percent of the immune
system is located in or around and pertains to the digestive system, especially
the large intestine.   Because you eliminate toxins your body has more energy
to fight other invaders.  Nobody is doubting that there are more toxins in our
environment today than  fifty years ago.  There are also more cases of cancers.
People who cleanse on a frequent basis experience fewer colds than they
have in the past.  Your liver also helps you prevent disease.  A clean colon
help the liver to function better.

5.  Cleansing helps decrease and eliminate cravings for salt and sugar.  In my
experience with cleansing I always crave fresh fruits and vegetables more so
than sugar and salt.  Your body is telling you it wants to rebuild.  Less
impacted fecal matter leaves less for parasites and toxins to thrive on and
adhere to.  Many people actually experience less depression.

6.  Cleansing also helps eliminate bad breath, acne, bloating, PMS,
headaches and allergy symptoms.

7.  Most cleanses cost under $30.   Thirty bucks for more energy, better
immunity and healthy weight loss...what a good deal!

Are You getting the Most from Your supplements?

Are you wasting money on supplements and at the same time clogging up your liver with cheap synthetic chemicals?

Americans spend over $5.8 billion every year on supplements according to CNN.com Reports.  We feel the need to gobble up vitamin and mineral supplements because we do not want to get old before our time.  Many of us also experience low levels of energy and will do anything we can to get that energy back.

Many studies have shown that the average American diet is lacking in trace minerals due to poor farming techniques in this country.   Senate Document 264 states our soils have been so depleted of nutrients for many years.  Senate Document 264 states "You'd think, wouldn't you, that a carrot is a carrot - that one is about as good as another as far as nourishment is concerned? But it isn't; one carrot may look and taste like another and yet be lacking in the particular mineral element which our system requires and which carrots are supposed to contain."     It is obvious to many that we need supplements because our diets do not take care of nutritional needs.  So, we take supplements.   The big question is “Are we getting all the nutrients the label states?”   Most scientist and nutritionists will tell you that the body only absorbs about 10% of the elemental minerals from pills and capsules.  The percentage is slightly higher for liquid supplements.

Why is it that we only absorb about 10% of the supplements we ingest?   There are several reasons.  One reason is that vitamin supplement companies use the cheapest grade synthetic nutrients they can find, much of which is not readily available to the body.   This is the case with many of the more popular supplements like Calcium, Vitamin C and E.   Another explanation is that digested nutrients from our food are absorbed in the cavity of the upper portion of the small intestine.   This is where most nutrients cross the mucosa into the blood and are passed on to other parts of the body.   However, if your colon is clogged it will not perform in the manner it should.  Because our modern diets consist more and more of highly processed foods and at the same time we are eating less and less raw fruits and vegetables our colons are becoming clogged.   Clogged with toxic waste and hardened fecal matter.  The hardened fecal matter disrupts the peristaltic digestive action of the intestine.   It also interferes with the ability of the body to absorb valuable nutrients.   Making it worse is that our bodies use up even more energy on trying to eliminate the toxic sludge that sticks to our intestinal walls.  Imagine a piece of meat left in a plastic bag in your garbage for several days.  The same is true with your intestines.  It begins to putrefy and rot.  Symptoms of a clogged colon are headaches, lack of mental focus, low energy levels, weight gain, cravings for salt and sugar, unexplained aches and pains in muscles, and bad breath.

It takes years of poor dietary habits to clog your colon and disrupt your digestion abilities.  That is why many ailments don’t appear until we are in our early forties.  We many times mask those signs with unhealthy actions like swallowing numerous antacid pills.   If we continue those poor eating habits a few years later disease sets in.  Quality of life goes way down.

So, how do you allow your body to absorb more of those valuable supplements you are taking?   I suggest three simple things you can do to counteract the Typical American Diet problems.    One:  Add more raw fruit and vegetables to your diet daily.   Instead of snacking on candy bars and chips eat apples, bananas and carrots.  Visit a salad bar more often.   Two:  Simply add powdered fiber or fiber capsules to your evening routine.   The extra fiber will help eliminate the built up gunk in your intestines.  Three: Do a good colon cleanse once every three or four months.   A good colon cleanse will begin to eat away at the layers of toxic waste you have accumulated.   It is important to do these colon cleanse on a regular basis because, again, you are just chipping away at years of accumulated fecal matter.   The good news is that you can change your diet patterns to the better in a short amount of time.  In recent years colon cleansing has become one of the most popular natural regimes to help us increase our natural energy levels.

Superfoods added top your diet help eliminate toxins and increase your energy building ability.  Superfoods like Chlorella bind with toxic heavy metals in your body like mercury and lead.

I beg you to investigate how cheap vitamins are produced in this country and abroad.

The standard disgusting commercial source of B-12 is from bacteria laden ground up dried beef livers. This vitamin meat is overloaded with steroids, growth hormones, antibiotics and pesticides. The other main source of commercial Vitamin B-12 is sewage sludge, YUCK!!! In today's environment of depressed immune diseases I can think of hundreds of reasons why both of these materials would be a health risk, not a benefit. Just because a so-called natural substance (fecal matter is natural) is high in a particular vitamin it DOESN'T MEAN THAT IT IS A GOOD FOOD!

Six Common Questions about Colon Cleansing

Ten years ago I remember how much I feared the idea of doing a colon cleanse.  So much so that I easily put up with the uncomfortable experiences of IBS. (Irritable Bowel Syndrome)  I still refused to do a colon cleanse.   I thought I was eating healthy, yet I still had terrible IBS.  I finally did my first of several colon cleanse and am very thankful that I did.  If you are on the fence about doing your first colon cleanse here are just a few of the questions I get from people new to the idea of colon cleansing.

Hopefully, these answers will help you decide if a colon cleanse is right for you.

1.  How do I know I should do a colon cleanse?
If you are an adult eating the typical American diet you are in need of a colon cleanse.  The more meat, processed foods, fried foods, cheese and dairy, sugar, sodas, alcohol, roasted peanuts and coffee you consume the more you are in need of a colon cleanse.   If your diet is mainly raw fruits, vegetables, brown rice, lean fish and salads the less likely you are in need of a regular colon cleanse.  It is my opinion that a vast majority of Americans over the age of twenty are in need of regular colon cleanses.  Some of the obvious indicators that your body needs a colon cleanse are:
*Loss of energy
*Lack of mental focus and poor memory.
*Unexplained headaches
*Bad breath and foul smelling stools
*Constipation
*Skin problems. Acne, rashes etc.
*Irritable Bowel Syndrome
*Weight gain
*Protruding belly
*Strong cravings for sugar or salt.

2.  Will I have to be in the bathroom every 15 minutes?
This is a very good question.   Since every body is different it is not possible to give an absolute answer.   There is a somewhat easy solution for people with this question.   Start the first day with half the dose and see how your body responds.  Another option is to start in the middle of the day and only do half of the daily dose the first day.  Listen to your body.   If that is too much cut back on dosage until you are getting results that are manageable.  It is also a good idea to start on a Saturday to get an idea if the cleanse is going to interfere with your work.  The whole idea of the cleanse is to rid your colon of excess waste and toxins so your goal should be to have three to four bowel movements a day during your cleanse.  It also depends on what your are eating during the time of your cleanse.  Large amounts of alcohol, coffee or sweets could aggravate your system even more while using the herbal components of the cleanse.

3.  What should I eat while on the colon cleanse?
You do not have to starve yourself.  One of the ideas of a cleanse is to give the digestive tract time to heal or mend.  The less energy the body spends on digestion the more energy it allocates to healing cells and organs.  So stay away from high fat content foods, greasy foods, processed and chemical laden foods, high sugar or salt content foods, large amounts of coffee, cheese and dairy, and alcohol.  It is a good idea to replenish your system by feeding it good healthy nutrient dense greens or fresh vegetable juices.  Eat more fruits and vegetables, brown rice is excellent for fiber and green salads.  Use the colon cleanse as an excuse to start some good habits.   Eat an apple for a snack versus a candy bar.  You should try to avoid red meat.  Substitute a smaller amount of fish or lean chicken or turkey (hormone and chemical free if possible.)

4.  What can I expect from my first colon cleanse?
What most people say is that they feel lighter.  They may lose only two or three actual pounds, but it was toxic sludge that they eliminated from their system.   People say they have more energy, have fewer colds, their memory has improved, less gas,  skin and hair is improved, bad breath is eliminated, less facial breakouts and they just feel much more alive and less irritable.  Some people report losing more than 5-10 pounds during a typical two week colon cleanse, but on the average most people lose two to five pounds.  Most people come away from a colon cleanse saying: “Wow!  That was really worth the effort!”

5.  How often do I need to cleanse.
Most cleansing specialists say you should do a colon cleanse four times a year or with each changing season.   In today’s busy world that is sometimes difficult to do.  I applaud clients who are able to do two or three cleanses every twelve months.  Although you will experience real results from your first colon cleanse the average person has a ways to go.  Remember, the average adult has years of  impacted fecal matter clogging your intestinal walls.  It comes away a layer at a time.  It took years to accumulate and will not go away overnight.  You will feel better after each cleanse you do as long as your diet cooperates with your colon cleansing routine.  An occasional diet let down is normal, so don’t be hard on yourself!

6.  Are there any exercises I can do to help with my colon cleanse?

This is a good question.   Any exercise that gets the blood flowing helps to start moving impurities out of the body.  Exercises that stimulate the lymph  system such as jogging or jumping on a trampoline are especially good.  Stretching and any yoga exercises are also good.  There is one set of exercises I recommend.  They are called the Five Tibetans and are a series of twenty-one Hatha Yoga movements blended into five exercises.  They open up pathways in the body and seem to rejuvenate and help heal the body. Natural Energy Supplements...The Next Trend in Nutrition!

America is being bombarded by 16 ounce lattes and mega energy drinks.  It is now acceptable for our youth to consume several sugary coffee drinks or highly caffeinated energy drinks each day.    Health officials will soon admit what I have been known to be brewing the last several years:  We are a nation low on energy and in need of quick fixes!

Are you low on energy?   You must not be alone.   Coffee and energy drinks have become big business in this country.  There seems to be a high profile espresso shop on every down town corner and in every large office building.   The other day I walked into a convenience store and counted the energy drinks offered in the cooler.  I was amazed to find 32 different brands and types being offered.  ( I live near a large college campus.)   Energy drinks are now part of the American Culture.   “Do more and get more.”

Why are health officials concerned about this new “coffee and energy drink culture?    Highly caffeinated and sugary drinks quickly deplete our natural energy abilities.   Caffeine mimics a hormone that tells the adrenal glands to secrete more adrenaline.   The only problem is that we have a limited amount of energy reserves.   Energy reserves are restored by proper sleep, low stress and a proper diet.  More than one or two cups of coffee a day is going to eventually empty the bank.

If you are drinking three or more cups of coffee a day your adrenals are depleted.  Your body is in a constant state of "fight or flight."   Coffee and energy drinks the very substances you thought were giving you that little kick is actually, in the long run depleting your energy levels to almost zero.  Over stimulating the adrenals leads to fatigue, insomnia, weight gain, depression and a weakened immune system.

Don’t get me wrong, an occasional coffee or energy drink will not kill you.  Just like alcohol, beer and wine you must use moderation.  The less you consume (both alcohol and caffeine)  the healthier you will be.   Here are five things you can do to push the energy balance in your favor:

1.  Get proper sleep.  Much harder than it sounds.  When your body “tells” you that it is tired, that means it is time to recharge, not refill your coffee cup.  Try not to consume caffeine after noon time.  Caffeine can stay in your system for eighteen to thirty hours and disrupt proper sleep.

2.  Stay away from high simple sugar content foods such as sodas.  Simple sugars elevate then drop your blood glucose levels.  This is very hard on the body and leads to more damaging diseases down the road.

3.  Add a good green superfood to your diet.  Because most of us consume a very processed diet we are missing many of the trace minerals and micro nutrients our system needs to achieve maximum energy and immunity levels.

4.  Add adrenal building herbs to your diet to help rebuild your energy storing glands, the adrenals.  Some good examples, ginseng, licorice, cayenne, garlic, gotu kola and hawthorne berry.    By drinking less caffeine and adding some of these adrenal building herbs as your daily supplements you will be surprised at how this will help you get more from just one cup of coffee versus needing three or four to keep going.

5.  If you need a boost from caffeine try something that contains guarana.  Guarana is similar to caffeine, but it releases its energy more slowly and evenly into your system.   This does not give you the energy roller coaster effect that most people experience when drinking high doses of caffeine.

Number One Cause of Fatigue:
Dehydration!

For all you Cola drinkers out there.....

Drink WATER!

#1.   75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated.
(Likely applies to half the world population.)
#2.   In 37% of Americans, the thirst mechanism is so weak that it is mistaken for hunger.
#3.   Even MILD dehydration will slow down one's metabolism as much as 30%
#4.   One glass of water will shut down midnight hunger pangs for almost 100% of the dieters studied in a University of Washington study.
#5.    Lack of water, the #1 trigger of daytime fatigue.
#6.    Preliminary research indicates that 8-10 glasses of
Water a day could significantly ease back and joint     pain for up to 80% of sufferers.
#7.     A mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short-term memory, trouble with basic math, and difficulty focusing on  computer screens or on a  Printed page.
#8.   Drinking 5 glasses of water daily decreases the risk of
Colon cancer by 45%, plus it can slash the risk of breast
Cancer by 79%., and one is 50% less likely to develop
Bladder cancer. Are you drinking the amount of water
You should drink every day?

COKE

#1.     In many states the highway patrol carries
Two gallons of Coke in the trunk to remove blood from
The highway after a car accident.
#2.    You can put a T-bone steak in a bowl of Coke
And it will be gone in two days.
#3.   To clean a toilet: Pour a can of Coca-Cola into the
Toilet bowl and let the "real thing" sit for one hour,
Then flush clean. The citric acid in Coke removes
Stains from vitreous China .
#4.    To remove rust spots from chrome car bumpers:
Rub the bumper with a rumpled-up piece of Reynolds
Wrap aluminum foil dipped in Coca-Cola.
#5.   To clean corrosion from car battery terminals: Pour
a can of Coca-Cola over the terminals to bubble away the corrosion.
#6.   To loosen a rusted bolt: Apply a cloth soaked in Coca-Cola to the rusted bolt for several minutes.
#7.   To bake a moist ham: Empty a can of Coca-Cola into
The baking pan, wrap the ham in aluminum foil, and bake.  Thirty minutes before ham is finished, remove the foil, allowing the drippings to mix with the Coke for a sumptuous brown gravy.
#8...     To remove grease from clothes: Empty a can of Coke into the load of greasy clothes, add detergent, and run through a regular cycle.  The Coca-Cola will help loosen
Grease stains. It will also clean road haze from your
Windshield.

FOR YOUR INFORMATION:

#1.     The active ingredient in Coke is phosphoric acid.
It will dissolve a nail in about four days. Phosphoric
Acid also leaches calcium from bones and is a major
Contributor to the rising increase of osteoporosis.
#2.   To carry Coca-Cola syrup! (the concentrate) the
Commercial trucks must use a hazardous Material place
Cards reserved for highly corrosive materials.
#3.     The distributors of Coke have been using it to clean
Engines of the trucks for about 20 years!

Now the question is, would you like a glass of water?

Or Coke?

What is Best Medicinal Herb you can Take

Six reasons to add Cayenne to your diet.

"If you master only one herb in your life, master cayenne pepper.   It is more powerful than anything else."  Dr. Richard Shulze.
Cayenne is a medicinal and nutritional herb.   Many herbalists believe Cayenne is the most useful and valuable herb in the herb kingdom.  Cayenne has been used for centuries as a medicine.
1.  Cayenne supplies nutrients and is considered a Superfood.   It is a very high source of vitamin A, C and B-Complexes.It is also rich in calcium and potassium.

2.   Cayenne helps the entire digestive system. It has been used for cramping pains and gas.  It is great for constipation and helps with elimination. Cayenne can help rebuild the tissue in the stomach and the peristaltic action in the intestines.  It aids  assimilation, and helps the body to create hydrochloric acid, which is so necessary for good digestion and assimilation, especially of proteins.  All this becomes very significant when we realize that the digestive system plays the most important role in mental, emotional and physical health, as it is through the digestive  system that the brain, glands, muscles and every other part of the body are fed and cleansed.  Chili peppers like cayenne have a bad--and undeserved--reputation for contributing to stomach ulcers. Not only do they not cause ulcers, these hot peppers may help prevent them by killing bacteria you may have ingested, while powerfully stimulating the cells lining the stomach to secrete protective buffering juices that prevent ulcer formation. The use of cayenne pepper is actually associated with a reduced risk of stomach ulcers.

3.  Pain. Capsaicin is the active ingredient in Cayenne. Capsaicin dulls pain sensations by interrupting the chemical messages sent to pain-sensing nerves. Over-the-counter topical creams, such as Zostrix and Dolorac, contain capsaicin as an active ingredient. These applications are used to relieve pain caused by muscle spasms, rheumatoid arthritis, bursitis, shingles, diabetic neuropathy, and even phantom pain caused by amputation.  Capsaicin cream is well established as a modestly helpful pain-relieving treatment for post-herpetic neuropathy (the pain that lingers after an attack of shingles) peripheral neuropathy (nerve pain that occurs most commonly as a side effect of diabetes, but may occur with HIV as well as other conditions), nerve pain after cancer surgery and arthritis pain.

4. Improved circulation.  There is no other herb which increases your blood flow faster than cayenne. Cayenne moves blood.   It is a circulatory tonic and helps improve circulation. It is thought that cayenne helps reduce cholesterol and triglycerides, thus promoting a healthy vascular system.  Cayenne and other red chili peppers have been shown to reduce blood cholesterol, triglyceride levels, and platelet aggregation, while increasing the body's ability to dissolve fibrin, a substance integral to the formation of blood clots. Cultures where hot peppers like cayenne are used liberally have a much lower rate of heart attack, stroke and pulmonary embolism.  Capsaicin is also a natural expectorant, and helps thin mucus, allowing you to expel it more easily. For this reason capsaicin is often included in home remedies for cough, and can be helpful when combined with other medicines as a treatment for pneumonia.   If you suffer from cold feet, try cayenne.

5. Metabolism booster.   More blood means more oxygen racing through your body.   This means more energy!  Lose Weight!
All that heat you feel after eating hot chili peppers takes energy--and calories to produce. Even sweet red peppers have been found to contain substances that significantly increase thermogenesis (heat production) and oxygen consumption for more than 20 minutes after they are eaten.  It is no wonder cayenne is included in many diet and weight loss products!

6. It makes other herbs work better!  When people ask Dr. Schulze, "What are the 10 most important herbs to have in the home?" He tells them, "At the top of the list is cayenne pepper, because it will make the other 9 work better."   Cayenne works to increase the effect of all the other herbs and nutrients you are taking in.

It is recommended that the cayenne powder be used, as opposed to capsules. It is believed that you are only getting a small part of the potential effect of cayenne pepper by taking it in capsules. When you put cayenne in your mouth, your stomach secretes digestive juices before the cayenne ever gets there. So when the cayenne gets down there, your stomach is ready for it.
But if you swallow a capsule, your tongue tastes nothing. A capsule goes down in your stomach, and your stomach notices nothing, at first. Then, 5 minutes later the gelatin bursts, and you have a 1/2 teaspoon of cayenne pepper in your stomach and your body is shocked. You surprised it.
What is going on is that some of cayenne's healing action occurs right in your mouth. As cayenne touches your tongue, the cayenne absorbs in seconds and nerve endings send signals throughout the body - sending waves of fresh blood throughout your body.
I advise clients to start their day with a half teaspoon of cayenne in 8-10 ounces of  luke warm water.  (Not water from the hot faucet because that contains sediment from the bottom of your hot water heater.  Heat water on the stove in a pan or tea pot.)  Drink 10-20 ounces of water the first twenty minutes you are awake.  This will do more for your body than that cup of coffee!

Healthy Energy Drinks

There are a ton of energy drinks on the market today that promise to make you feel more alert, happy and on your toes. But are the companies making these fantastic concoctions telling you all there is to know about their products? Do you even know what you are paying for when forking over the big bucks for these designer drinks? Well, read on to find out!
#1   Stay away from High Sugar content energy drinks.
#2   Stay away from super high caffeinated energy drinks.
# 3   Stay away from High Fructose Corn Syrup.  (HFCS)
HFCS is a by product of oil manufacturing and it just happens to taste
sweet and is cheaper than sugar.  It is also a food additive that make you
crave more food.   Do a search on google to check it out!

The number one energy drink I recommend is ACT ENERGY DRINK

It is very low in sugar, sweetened with stevia (natural and zero calories) and it gets its energy from B- Vitamins, Green Tea and Guarana.
Guarana contains many healthful substances, including a natural stimulatory ingredient known as Guaranine. Guaranine is not caffeine anhydrous. In fact, it is molecularly similar to the Theobromine in chocolate.  Chocolate is known as the ‘feel good’ candy and A.C.T. is known as the ‘feel good’ energy drink. We believe that Guaranine is a healthier alternative to caffeine anhydrous and is one of the many reasons why A.C.T. works.
Check out the sugar content in these energy drinks compared to ACT Energy Drink.
